Michael Landau - Chairman
Michael Landau is the Founder of MAP International, Chairman of CTI Global LLC and of the Joseph Initiative Ltd (JI) East Africa. Under his guidance, the MAP team has deployed a robust electronic financial and biometric data capture infrastructure to bring banking services to the "unbanked" in developing countries in Africa. The Joseph initiative team has developed a world class agriculture program for small holder farmers using cluster based, value added programs, eradicating post-harvest losses and greatly improving farmer income. Landau's initiatives are becoming the framework for the national agriculture ecosystem in Uganda where he is working with the United Nations Office for Food Security, the World Food Programme and other international and national entities. Landau has pioneered some unique and creative structures of public private partnerships to enable governments in developing countries to facilitate MAP's and JI's transformational systems.
Landau is a recognized opinion leader in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development in the under-developed world and has spoken at various global conferences including: UN General Assembly High Level meetings on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ( 2009, 2010, 2011), the UN Leadership Summit on Climate Change (2010), the Commonwealth Business Forum ( 2008, 2009), the Economic Commission for Africa at the African Union (2008), the UN Private Sector Forum on the MDGs (2010, 2011), the European Parliament (2009) and the World Bank (2009).
Landau serves on the Strategy Council of the United Nations Global Alliance for ICT and Development and is active member of the UN Global Compact and UN Office of Partnership. Under Landau's guidance, MAP has been recognized as a leader in the mobile financial services sector, having been designed a finalist for the 2009 GSMA (representing 219 countries and over 800 mobile operators in the world) for "Best Use of Mobile for Social and Economic Development", a "Business Call to Action" honoree at the World Business Awards by United Kingdom's Department for International Development, and MAP has given by the UNDP at the World Economic Forum in Cape Town (2009) and a finalist at the Financial Times- IFC Development Awards in London (2009).
He was recently appointed by NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio as a Director of New York City Global Partners.
Landau also serves on the International Jewish Coalition for Interfaith Consultations (IJCIC) which is the foremost committee for Jewish-Vatican-Christian relations. Landau has represented the Jewish people with the current and immediate past Pope and maintains working relationships at the highest level of the Curia. He is also regarded by many as the de facto Jewish liaison to the United Nations with his deep and long lasting relationships with the UN Secretary General, UN Deputy Secretary, chief executives of many UN agencies, as well as with a significant number of current and former UN Ambassadors.
Landau serves as the Chairman of the West Side COJO (Council of Orthodox Jewish Organizations) which raised over $10 Million for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. In this capacity he is active with the political and civic leadership of New York City. Landau has also been a Clergy Liaison with the NYPD , Chaplain with the MTA Police and is well regarded amongst civic and community based leaders for his commitment to collaborations and outreach with minority communities.
Landau received his bachelor's degree from the London School of Economics, a master's degree from New York University, and a law degree from Yeshiva University's Cardozo School for Law. He lives in NYC with his wife and has four children.
